I’m not quite sure why we’ve not visited this bijou vegan cafe in the heart of Chingford earlier! It’s only 15 minutes drive from us so there isn’t much excuse really, but I kept on hearing about their food and good vibes on social media & we finally made the trip.
And we are very glad we made the effort.
Idan, the owner & chef and his team are all super lovely, knowledgeable and passionate about great organic ingredients & yummy vegan food. They get most of their produce from an organic farm in Cambridgeshire, and they told us they’ve just got an allotment, with the aim to grow lots of their own ingredients in summer. We can’t wait to see what they grow, I think the only thing I love more than vegan food, is vegan food that is locally grown by people who care!
There is a daily changing menu of hot food, as well as great coffee, and classic vegan fare such as avocado on toast, juices and homemade sweet treats. They also sell a selection of vegan deli ingredients and their very own organic T-shirts. Lovely.
I opted for the lentil burger from the specials board- which had a great savoury flavour & came with a gorgeous homemade vegan dill mayo, a slice of vegan cheese and a zippy seasonal salad. The gardener had a spicy vegetable stew that had flavours of the Middle East & India, rich with cumin and quite spicy, served over some rice. All very very delicious.
Now, if you’re in London, you might think not think to ever visit Chingford, but I can tell you that it’s actually pretty easy and a makes a lovely day trip. Catch a train from Liverpool St- It only takes around 25 mins, and you’re in a cute little town that borders the forest. Head over to The Feel Good Cafe for some yummy food, then go for a wander towards the historic Queen Elizabeth’s Hunting Lodge (no, not the current Queen, the famously red headed one). There’s loads of walking trails to explore and it’s very pretty. You could even get your food to take away and have it for a picnic.
