🌱Top Tips
- Asparagus is at it's best during the spring season, from April to the end of May. The fresher it is, the sweeter and tastier it is, so try and buy locally rather than asparagus that has been shipped across the world!
- When buying asparagus, be sure that the ends are bouncy and fresh and not dried or mouldy looking. If you can buy them direct from the market as the asparagus in grocery stores might have spent a long time in cold storage or even travelled for thousands of kilometers.
- When you get your asparagus home, chop a little of the base ends off, then put the ends in water and pop the whole into the fridge. Just like a bunch of flowers! This helps keep the asparagus fresh and bouncy for longer.
- When you're cooking with asparagus, snap the woody bottoms off, and pop them into a container or freezer bag. Once you have gathered enough, use them to flavor stock or vegetable broth for soup or risotto.
